He loves the noble Hedyle and the beautiful Tryphaena and later becomes an antiquarian for Emperor Tiberius before dying in a shipwreck. A journey through happiness, loss and despair and an attempt to reach more fundamental truths and a feeling common to all of mankind through time-transcending characters.
