Reise Reise (2018)

As a result of an artistic process of change and longer reflections, Maximilian began with the series "Reise, Reise" in September 2017, consisting of images that incorporate the concept of travel in their outward appearance and in their implementation. It is a journey of the artist through material and method. It was the desire for a new pictorial expression that moved Maximilian to deal with this multi-faceted subject matter and to create a journey of the characters across the most diverse places and intellectual levels. The series consists of several sections. For the first time, two self-portraits of Maximilian Davis will be shown. This is followed by the "Master Series" with Masters 1 - 5 based on Japanese haikus. Each of his characters master their own journey. As through the seasons, shown at "Season. Master IV "or to a mint tea in the Berber tent shown at" Imazighen: Master V (ATAY) ". In addition to other works dealing with travel, the exhibition ends with the "Maximilian and Carlota" cycle. This cycle shows works on the Mexican emperor Maximilian I and his wife. In the last room you can see how Carlota is disbanded in four identical but modified versions and finally seen as a shadow figure (Eidolon). The central image "Layers" shows the 4 different styles that Maximilian is in use of and completes the overall picture and theme of traveling. May it be through styles or realms.
